[i]I'd like to tell you a story all about how i became a Scientologist. I grew up in America and had been on psychiatric drugs for as long as i could remember. One day, loitering at the local Kroger's supermarket with a friend, out front was a Scientologist free testing table. With nothing to do we took it for a laugh. My friend being of stable mind just took the thing as a joke and thought nothing of it, but me with my emotional issues felt profoundly affected by what me and the tests administrator spoke about. The echoing of the thoughts inside me of psychiatry's failings, the promise of hope in a spirituality i could be fooled to believing in. It cost money to be a part of Scientology, yet i managed to make myself a part of it. My Mother got angry that i had stolen from her, then she got scared when she saw what i was using it for. She said 'Youre moving with your Auntie and Uncle to Bel-Air'. The plane landed and when i got out. There was a guy, looked like a cop, standin there with my name out. I aint tryin to get arrested yet i just got here. I sprang with the quickness like lightning disappeared. I whistled for a cab and when it came near. The license plate said 'fresh' and had a dice in the mirror. If anything i could say that this cab was weird. But i thought 'nah forget it, yo home to Bel-Air'. I pulled up to a house about 7 or 8. And i yelled to the cabbie ' Yo holmes smell ya later'. I looked at my kingdom i was finally there. To sit on my throne as the prince of Bel-Air. And now, living here in Bel-Air, without the drugs and without the words of Scientology ive become an emotionally stable person. The reason Scientology hate psychiatrists so much is because theyre fighting for the same customers. Everyone needs to know that theres no quick fixes to your problems. You cant just buy the answer. Both Scientology and Psychiatry squeeze money out of the damaged with promises of quick fixes and false hope. The world would be greater without them and i commend Anonymous for fighting to make this world a better place. Thank you and Candlejack.[/i] TL;DR post, fuck yeah. I went to the Scientology raid here in Sydney today, it was a fun experience. As you can imagine this greatly confused people looking for the nearby Chinese New Year Parade. We arrived in the police enclaved (lol big word) street where the center resided and began our long struggle to come up with lulzy chants and play it up for the [url=http://googumproduce.com/scientolog yraid/newsiceskating.jpg]News Cameras[/url] (a tough thing to do while Scifags film us and type ominously into their laptop from the overseeing windows). There were many un-lulzy chants but luckily there were some good ones such as; '[url=http://googumproduce.com/scientolo gyraid/allhailxenu.jpg]Xenu![/url] FUCK YEAH!', 'FAIL!', '[url=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L8j vqAagUuQ]Braaaaaainwaaaaaaaaaaash[/url]' , 'What do we want? MUDKIPS! When do we want em? NOW!' and a Birthday Song to [url=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lisa_M cPherson]Lisa[/url] (get out [url=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nancy_ Cartwright_%28actress%29#Other_work]bart [/url] im piss!). I proudly started a chant of '[url=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nrU x2bol_98]G-T-F-O[/url]', which is a slightly better feeling than making a successful thread on a chan (not by much really). The people were majority Anon's with a few crazy hippies for good measure. Of course the local Fox-esque News Team, Channel Ten, went straight for the crazy female hippy to completely misrepresent the majority.... luckily we were 'Xenu! FUCK YEAH!'ing through a large portion of it (i was shouting 'FUCK YEAH' nice and loud towards the boom). Also i came in mid-hippy answer and dead panned to the camera 'My penis is huge.' and calmly walked away. One guy who was filming us was clearly a [url=http://googumproduce.com/scientolog yraid/lolwut.jpg]SciSpy[/url] due to his; unfalling fake smile, big rimmed sunglasses, claimed to work for Channel Nine but only had a little camcorder. He was promptly Zerg Rushed. Then we broke for [url=http://googumproduce.com/scientolog yraid/efgwaitsinline.jpg]lunch[/url]. We marched off toward the nearby McDonalds chanting 'B-R-B-LUNCH!' and 'B-B-L LUNCH!'. Im not a big fan of McDonald's so i promptly stated 'THE BURGERS ARE BETTER AT HUNGRY JACKS!' (Non-Australians: Hungry Jacks is the AUS name for Burger King and that is there advertising slogan). Upon seeing the huge line up of people at McDonalds (from the New Years parade) everyone else echoed my statement and marched to the Hungry Jacks around the corner. I gots a whopper and a [url=http://googumproduce.com/scientolog yraid/ihasasoda.jpg]soda[/url]. :3 Most people went back with there food but im not one to walk and eat so i stuck around at Hungry Jacks to finish my meal, take a piss and refill my drink. Walking out some other Anon had stuck around and were handing out [url=http://googumproduce.com/scientolog yraid/flyer.jpg]flyers[/url] and arguing with some Earthbound-like Skatepunks. Their leader looked like a male version of chin-chan! I made my way back to the protest which was significantly smaller after lunch. There some drawfags started up a picture of [url=http://googumproduce.com/scientolog yraid/ourcatislongourwillisstrong.jpg]Lo ngcat[/url] while everyone else stood around trying to think of something good to chant while one of the crazy hippies yelled stuff about the inner workings of Scientology into a Megaphone that i could barely make out from just a few metres away. A Scientology member made his way over to one side of the people and filmed a bit and quickly got into an argument about his 'right to believe what i want', he ran off shortly after obviously feeling outnumbered and some anon took after him...i dont know what happened but they either A) caught him and lynched him or more likely B) gave up and sat down for a breather.... no stamina with all those Thetans weighing us down. It was getting to be time to end it so everyone gathered around the drawfags' Longcat and we [url=http://googumproduce.com/scientolog yraid/writingnames.jpg]wrote down our names[/url] for all to see. Names such as; Richard C. Mongler, Bill Kaulitz, Gregory House, etc. I signed 'NIGRA'. We counted down the seconds as our Permit to protest ran out and sprang with the quickness, like lightning, and disappeared. Overall i'd have to say it was a pretty good show and a pretty good turnout too considering Anonymous' previous IRL raid attempts. Although I personally would think someone would have a little more respect for those who died, to each their own. However, those with the 'Fuck off and die biatch' comments, obviously this offends you in some way, so distancing yourself from said game, and sites related to, as well as the author seems to be the best course of action. He's entitled to make any game he wants, same as I would be entitled to make a game that portrayed Adolf Hitler as the greatest hero our race has ever seen, should my beliefs be that way. I think the whole thing is quite amusing, how worked up people get. Some of our international friends may not be aware of the fact, but it is 'the Australian way' to make light of tragedy as a way of getting through it. I'm not using this is as an excuse but just take it for what it is, some one with a great(but twisted) sense of humour, great computer programming skills and way too much spare time. I don't see the big deal honestly. In saying that, I don't know how I'd feel if I knew someone killed in the massacre. To all the guys bagging the shit out of it, have you considered that in giving the game this attention, you're effectively giving it more publicity? Even if it's bad. If I hadn't read about it as a result of the uproar I would never had known. on the same note, I feel some people may be enthused about the game for the wrong reasons and may be missing the point (assuming there was some semi-admirable motivation behind it's creation). Linked from a ninemsn news article to the game. I have recently done a report on game design and my case study was SuperColumbineRPG. Hence why your game is so interesting. I'd like to refer to an article on Gamasutra.com (http://www.gamasutra.com/features/20070 514/ruberg_01.shtml) where Clint Hocking gives his opinion on how games should not enforce values. Ideal games create a place to show consequence which is what you have done brilliantly. The media will always latch onto games of this 'genre' and spin it for as many papers as they can sell. I don't think it was this style of game Clint had in mind when writing the article but it provided an interesting ground for me to explore a world I'd normally never go to and in turn explore myself. It is quite sad that these sort of independent sensational games are probably what is going to bring the computer gaming industry to question whether they are making games anymore or narratives that need a controller. Never the less, kudos for having balls to poke the stick where it hurts because it raises a lot of issues that need to be discussed and not pushed aside.

I just finished playing ‘VTech Rampage’ and have some mixed thoughts. 1) There are elements of factual synthesis to the game. Creator Ryan Lambourn has a sense of humor (morbid, certainly - but not beyond the recognition of the guy who made Super Columbine Massacre RPG) that arises in the quips uttered by Cho and by police officers that apprehend him. The use of Cho’s identity as “?” is found in the upstairs of Norris Hall and there are loose references to events as outlined in the media’s reports following the shooting. Also the use of Collective Soul (hardly the “angry rock music” that one would imagine from a mass murderer) provides an interesting counterpoint to the game’s violence. Whether this was intentional on Ryan’s part or whether this was merely the result of Cho’s favorite song as reported by the press remains up for speculation. 2) It would appear to me that Ryan has no intention of doing much other than making money and gaining immediate recognition after the Virginia Tech shooting. Inevitably, comparisons between SCMRPG and VTech Rampage are being made right now. Some bloggers despise both games equally whereas others recognize a level of commentary that SCMRPG attempted which was not evident in VTR. For myself I wish to point out that SCMRPG was never a for-profit endeavor and thus I never posted statements like that which is on the VTR game’s homepage: “I will take this game down from newgrounds if the donation amount reaches $1000 US, i’ll take it down from here if it reaches $2000 US, and i will apologize if it reaches $3000 US.” This quote seems to indicate that Ryan has no intention of leaving the game up permanently or having a channel for discourse (as I have done) but instead has unfortunately chosen an artist’s statement that reads more like a hostage note. Following Ryan’s demand, would anyone accept an apology made after a $3000 collection check? I’m not sorry for making SCMRPG nor should Ryan be sorry for making VTR; to imply that his apologies can be purchased for a few thousand dollars truly cheapens whatever efforts he is attempting to make. 3) While many are bemoaning how the game industry should distance itself from homebrew games, I am torn as to whether I should distance myself and my game from Ryan and his. I wrote after the Virginia Tech shooting: “Societies throughout history have dealt with pain, tragedy, and suffering with art in a multitude of forms and ours is no exception. There will be poems about this shooting, there will be books about it, films about it, paintings about it, and indeed I do not believe the medium of interactive electronic media should be excluded from exploring the sorrows and challenges of the human experience.” Now I am forced to confront my own words by asking if the VTR game does ANY of what I outlined as the “exploration” of “sorrows and challenges of the human experience.” I would like to ask us to consider not whether a game about the Virginia Tech shooting SHOULD be made but how we might go about making a game that accomplishes more than VTR does with the subject matter.
